1. Definition and Significance of IP Codes

  • IP (Ingress Protection) is an international standard (IEC 60529) that classifies the degree of protection provided by enclosures against solids (e.g., dust) and liquids (e.g., water) 
  • Code Structure: Expressed as IPXX, where:
    • First digit (0–6): Solid particle/dust protection.
    • Second digit (0–9): Liquid ingress protection.
      Higher numbers indicate stronger protection. For example, IP68 offers complete dust resistance (6) and extended water immersion protection
