Heat Pump Heating Unit E13 High-Pressure Fault: Professional Troubleshooting Protocol

  • By:
  • Date:2026/01/29

I. Fault Definition & Hazards

E13 indicates high-pressure switch trip protection, triggered when system pressure exceeds the safety threshold (typically ≥2.7 MPa) 1. Sustained high pressure may cause compressor overload, pipeline rupture, or seal failure, requiring immediate intervention.

II. Causes & Solutions

(1) Water Circuit Issues (≈70% cases)

  1. Insufficient Water Flow
    • Causes: Pump failure/undersizing, clogged Y-strainer, partially closed valves, air pockets, low water level
    • Solutions:
      • Verify pump operation and measure current to ensure compatibility
      • Clean filters (monthly recommended)
      • Purge air from the system, check for pipe kinks
      • Inspect water replenishment valves and level sensors.
  2. Reduced Heat Exchanger Efficiency
    • Causes: Scaling in condenser (hard water areas), blockage in water-side heat exchanger
    • Solutions:
      • Flush with 15% phosphoric acid for 20 minutes (avoid copper corrosion);
      • Install water softeners to prevent recurring scaling.

(2) Refrigeration System Issues (≈25% cases)

  1. Excessive Refrigerant or Blockage
    • Causes: Overcharged refrigerant, clogged expansion valve, welding slag obstruction
    • Solutions:
      • Recover excess refrigerant to nameplate specifications;
      • Check pressure differentials to locate blockages (focus on expansion valves/dryers).
  2. Poor Condenser Heat Dissipation
    • Causes: Dust/pollen on outdoor coil, obstructed airflow, fan failure .
    • Solutions:
      • Rinse coils with pressurized water (never use wire brushes);
      • Ensure clearance around intake/exhaust vents.

(3) Electrical & Sensor Failures (≈5% cases)

  1. False High-Pressure Alarms
    • Causes: Damaged pressure switch, sensor drift, mainboard circuit errors
    • Solutions:
      • Temporarily short-circuit the switch; replace if fault disappears;
      • Recalibrate sensors or replace mainboard.

IV. Preventive Maintenance

  1. Quarterly: Clean filters/fans, calibrate pressure switches
  2. Annually: Water quality tests and chemical flushing ;
  3. Installation Compliance: Match pump head/flow to unit specs, reserve service space .

Engineer's Note: Lowering outlet temperature (≤55°C) in extreme cold reduces high-pressure risks .

Toolkit Recommendations:

  • Essential: Manifold pressure gauge, clamp meter, multimeter
  • Advanced: Thermal imager (for rapid blockage detection)
